"That thing" refers to her period, as known as Little Auntie (小阿姨). She also refrains from drinking cold drinks during the "cold months" of October through May.

Yaodun Paigu (藥燉排骨) is an herbal stew of pork ribs and Chinese medicine.
I'm polish and my wife is a jew. I make the money and she holds on to it. Around christmas I like to buy gifts for friends and family. I will ask my wife for some money and she will say "no". I then reply with a "Don't be a jew" comment. Is that wrong?
